Satisfied

For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
— Psalm 107:9 ESV

Psalm 107 tells the story of different characters that found themselves stuck until they cried out to the Lord. It is a Psalm of deliverance and hope. When we call out to God, he answers.

Today we remember that God does not ignore or reject our searching and longing. God responds to us as we reach for him.

Do you have a longing soul? Are you hungry? Are you weary of striving in your own strength? Has life beaten you up? Are you feeling depressed, anxious, and afraid?

Maybe you like to hide the struggle, but as you read through those questions, something stirs in you. God is willing and able to bring you into freedom. He is ready to fill your soul with good things.

He does this when we come to him and cry out for his help. There is a necessary posture of humility and desperation we have to take if we want to get the fullness of what God has for us. It is not because God only responds to our groveling, but that something shifts in our inner being when we resolve that nothing else but Jesus will satisfy.

The truth is that while desperation feels like getting more of God, in many ways, it is more about shedding all the burdens, lies, and bonds that we used to hold. A longing and hungry heart is not just the perfect condition for God to come and fill. It is the best posture to break off the enemy strongholds.

I want to invite you into a season of longing, hungering, and desiring Jesus.Sometimes we need to get an attitude of desperation that says, “I don’t care anymore. Jesus, I just want you.”
