I Lack Nothing

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
— - PSALM 23:1 NIV

This one verse contains a powerful revelation into who God is. If we truly believe what this verse says about who God is, it can transform how we relate to and follow him. This verse teaches us that God is our shepherd. As our shepherd, he leads us through every season.

Therefore, in every season, we can trust that we will have all that we need. We will never lack anything, even when we feel like we do. When we believe that God is our shepherd and we lack nothing, it produces a deep trust that helps us remain devoted to God throughout the various seasons of life. David goes on to talk about those various seasons of life God leads us to and through.

He leads us to and through seasons of rest to restore our souls (v. 2-3a). He leads us to and through seasons of correction and conviction to produce righteousness in us (v.3b). He leads us to and through dark and difficult seasons to assure us that he is with us to correct and protect (v. 4). He leads us to and through seasons of blessing and overcoming our enemies to show us that our enemies have no authority over us (v. 5).

In each of these seasons, God guides us as a shepherd guides his sheep. He does not leave us nor forsake us. He protects us. He provides for us. He celebrates us. He restores us. He anoints us. He shepherds us.

What season do you find yourself in? Do you sense God shepherding you through it? It is ok if not.

I encourage you to pause and ask God to reveal to you how he is specifically shepherding you through this season. As you do, remember the words of Jesus from John 10:27 where he said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. As one of God’s sheep, one of his people, you can hear his voice and follow him.”

It may be hard to hear him at times because of the noise around you or inside of you. As you read the scriptures and pray, ask God to help you get quiet and listen. When you do, I am confident you will hear the good shepherd calling out to you.

Jesus is calling out to each of us today. He is ready to shepherd us through every season of life. Will we follow him as he does?
