I Am With You

Isaiah 43:1 (ESV) says, “But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.’”

This verse is the heart of the Lord over us today.

I’m struck with a simple truth this morning. Regardless of how I feel about this passage, Isaiah is communicating the desire of God to us. My attention is drawn to the reality that, even if I don’t think this verse is helpful for me today, it is a direct revelation of how God thinks of his children.

So it should matter to me.

It is easy to flip through the Bible looking for a verse that resonates with us. We might find something nice, or we might give up after a light search. If we find a verse we like, it might validate our feelings. Still, that rarely leads to transformation.

The truth is that every verse of the Bible is packed with transformational promise. Instead of filtering through the word to find my favorite verses, what would happen if I allowed God to speak to me in every verse?

Transformation happens when we can look at a word of truth that we cannot understand or receive and allow the Holy Spirit to write it on our hearts, imprint it on our soul, and reveal it to our minds.

It isn’t always easy to come to the word this way, but whenever we do, it is transformational. Abiding should be a transformational practice. When we open up to the Spirit of God and allow the truth of the word to wash over us, we experience renewal and personal revival.

My challenge is to approach this verse with that mindset. Before you decide you need a different verse, ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through this one. Put yourself in a position of humility and surrender before the Lord so that he can show you something new and true about his character.

Amen.
