Psalm 135:5 | God is Great
Psalm 135:5 ESV says, “For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.”
I’ve noticed that usually, the enemy works against us in small repetitive ways. Sometimes we experience devastating loss or unexpected trials, but most often, Satan and his demons feed lies one at a time into our lives to slowly burden our hearts.
One day we can wake up and realize that without knowing it, we bought into complaining, hopelessness, anger, or sin. What can we do to break the cycle?
I remember today that while we can slowly accumulate the baggage that weighs us down, it takes the truth of God to break the bonds of oppression. One of the ways that we step into freedom is to align our hearts with the greatness of God.
It is nearly impossible to both live in sin and hopelessness and declare the greatness of God at the same time. I’m not saying you physically can’t say, “God is great,” but that these heart postures contradict one another.
Here’s the good news. We get to worship God and declare his truth not because we are worthy of it, but because he is faithful. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you have done, you can declare the truth of Psalm 135:5 over your life. If you are obediently following God and walking in his presence, this verse might be a warm reminder of God’s power. If you are stuck in bondage, the truth of these words could begin to shatter the walls between you and God.
This is a bold prayer! If you are stuck in a place of darkness, I want to call you to pray this prayer out loud wherever you are. Come before God and open your heart. Ask him to help you. Put the burdens and brokenness you feel before his throne and then declare, “I know that the Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods.” Watch as the power of sin and darkness fades in the light of his glory.
