Shouts Of Deliverance

Psalm 32:7 ESV says, “You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah”

Yesterday we looked at a passage about surrender. Psalm 32 is also a psalm of repentance and confession, but a secondary theme of God’s deliverance is within this text. God is a refuge both in freeing us from sin and saving us from danger.

Did you know that God’s presence is a place you can go to to find strength and rest? God supernaturally engages us when we come to him in prayer and open our hearts to him. That does not mean that wild signs and wonders will occur every time we pray, but every encounter, from minor to significant, is genuinely supernatural as the God of the universe breaks into our lives.

As believers, we get to live from this heavenly reality every day. When we need greater grace, God brings it. When we just need the stillness of his presence, he is there.

This may seem trivial now, but when you are faced with a crisis you cannot bear, God’s shouts of deliverance are all that you have.

I want you to imagine what shouts of deliverance sound like. To me, this is a moving and dramatic image of our God. I like to think of a search and rescue team. Imagine you are a kid who lost your way in the woods. I like to think God’s shouts of deliverance are like when you are found. The team would begin shouting victoriously, “I found them! I found them!” Renewed energy would flood the team. Perhaps they would start running as they converge on your location.

How good is it to think about God in this way? When we are lost or in need, he is on a search and rescue team to bring us into safety.

Reflection

What do God’s shouts of deliverance sound like to you? Is there a particular image or scenario that comes to mind?

What is the area of safety (spiritual, emotional, physical) that you have experienced God bringing you to? Where do you need his help?
