Walk In The Light

1 John 1:7 ESV says, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

I think walking in the light is an excellent alternative view to the life of abiding daily. What is our desire and goal but to be everyday living in the truth and the presence of the Lord? Father, help us to walk in your ways.

We cannot walk in the light alone. We have to live in the light of Christ. Any light that we create on our own is not light at all. Jesus talked about this in Matthew 6:22-23 ESV, saying, “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”

Today we can be deeply grateful because God has invited us to walk in the light with him. We walk in the light as he is in the light. We only need to share in what God has already provided for us. Learning to have eyes to see God in his light will allow us to walk in his light more closely.

What is God’s desire in calling us to the light? It is fellowship. He wants to connect with us, know us, and commune with us.

He wants to abide.

Here is the grace. Are you worried you won’t be good enough? Are you afraid that you are going to mess up? Do you fear that the darkness will overtake you again?

Cling to Jesus.

His precious blood will cleanse you of your sin.

Understand this morning that no one is perfect. Living in the light requires us to put an end to the ways of darkness. Striving in our strength will lead to cycles of defeat and shame, but abiding in the light and leaning on the redemptive power of Jesus will lead us to a life of victory and growth in the Spirit.

So walk today. Walk in the light as he is in the light.

Reflection

What pulls you away from walking in the light? Are you ready to surrender today?

How does it make you feel to realize that the blood of Jesus cleanses you from your sin?
