Psalms 86:5 | Abounding In Love

Psalms 86:5 NIV says, “You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.”

The Kingdom of God has a built-in reset button called prayer. Its no question that the history of God’s people is marked with innumerable second chances. No one person made it to glory without God's grace, forgiveness, and goodness.

I love singing the song “Goodness of God” by Bethel Music. It is a powerful worship song for me because I get caught up in testifying that it is only because God has been good to forgive me that I can even give him an ounce of praise.

I’ve been thinking about asking lately. Scripture has a few things to say about asking and what I gather from a few of those verses is that you don’t get if you don’t ask. Why would we fail to ask God for help? We could think that our problem is not significant enough for God. We might believe we messed up too much to be loved by God. We could be convinced that God doesn’t care about us.

This verse flies in the face of those lies. It shuts down the demonic agenda that strives to separate us from the love of God. No, nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:39).

There is, however, a key piece in accessing God’s grace. It’s not a test or an assignment. It is not a price to pay or an award to earn. It is simply to call on his name.

Reach out to the Lord and ask him to help you. This simple act of humility is the key to coming under God’s abounding love. It opens the door for us to see that God has forgiven us and freed us.

Amen.
