JOHN 14:4 | WHERE JESUS IS GOING

John 14:4 ESV Jesus said, “And you know the way to where I am going.”

I cherish Jesus’ words in John 14-17. It is here that Jesus is giving his final address to his followers. Chief on his mind is making sure that they know how to know him and stay connected to him after he ascends to heaven.

The disciples struggled to understand what Jesus meant when he said he was going away. So when Jesus says that they will know the way to where he is going, the disciples are quick to ask the first question on their minds. Forget how to get there! Where was Jesus going?

That’s when Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Where was Jesus going? To the Father. How do we get there? Through Jesus.

The concept was simple, but the disciples were thinking in the wrong terms. They were still fixed on earthly destinations, not realizing that Jesus was a part of a greater kingdom—a kingdom they were invited into.

Today we have that same invitation. We don’t have to be clueless about how to get to God. Jesus has made a way. I consider this morning that I don’t have to understand how it happens; I just need to call on the name of Jesus.

The words that Jesus spoke to his disciples are the exact words for us today. “You know the way.”

Pause for a moment and receive the invitation to come closer to Jesus. Breathe in the peace of his promise that we have access to God through the Son.
