Trusting In God’s Salvation
In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.” —Isaiah 25:9 NIV
Something about the tone of Isaiah’s prophetic writings always speaks to my heart. The message of hope in God is openly woven into a lament of the world’s corruption. There’s only One who can save, and that is the Lord.
Isaiah 25 tells the story of God breaking the power of oppression over the earth as he comes to rule from Mount Zion. In that place, all who put their trust in God receive their reward: full salvation.
Do you long for freedom and deliverance? When you look at the world around you and your place in it, do you call out to God and put your trust in him?
Trusting in God often begins in a place of weakness and vulnerability. By definition, faith is hoping for what we can’t see but believe is true. Sometimes, this faith comes against a world that opposes the truth on every side. A world so gripped by sin and the power of death that faith in a god God seems foolish.
…And it would be, apart from the ever-present help of a good God.
On that day when Christ returns in glory, we will rejoice that our hope and confidence was not an empty prayer. We will declare that God is good, faithful, and just. We will stand in the light of his presence while the sun and moon fade away like a dull glow. That will be a glorious day.
Yet that day starts right now. We have the invitation to put our faith and trust in the living God. We won’t want to wait until that day to trust the Lord. All will know that the Lord is God on that day, but only those who built their life on faith in his promises will receive the reward of salvation.
So put your hope in God right now. Turn from other strongholds of trust and put it all on God. You can expect that it may sometimes feel shaky—the fulfillment is yet to come. Let this verse be an anchor of hope wherever you are to keep trusting in God at all times.
Amen.
