He Cares, We Respond

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
— 1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)

Abiding is fundamentally a response to the invitation from God to come to him. We stand as hopelessly unworthy of divine communion without Jesus’ grace-filled invitation to draw near. We will spend our life vainly pursuing God as our one thing if our only hope of entering his presence is through earning God’s approval. Apart from God, we neither have the power nor the purity to befriend God. There is no level of effort that will replace the broken state of humanity before God. We simply cannot strive our way into intimacy with God.

We can only respond. God invites us to be close to him and deeply connected with him because he loves us. He makes the invitation. He offers the provisions we need to handle divine glory.

Even in this moment, God is inviting you and preparing you to meet with him more deeply. Beyond devotions, bible plans, worship songs, and scripted prayers, God desires to encounter you today in a way only you can experience.

Perhaps the anxieties of life are weighing you down. I wrote on this verse almost a month ago on the topic of giving over our worries and fears. Today I want us to meditate on the invitational promise we have because of Christ’s goodness.

I want you to see that God is beckoning you to give him your fears. He is calling you to pass over your worry.

Theologically, we can conclude that Jesus is the best source of peace. We can mentally comprehend the concept that his sacrifice on the cross means that he has the power to handle all the sin and brokenness we experience. These points help us understand the complexities of our faith, but today I want us to see the simplicity of our faith.

It is that God does invite us to give over our burdens because he does care for us.

The driving force behind the grace to rest in his arms is that God cares. God wants to offer that gift to you and me today. He is not watching to see if we will get it right or mess it up. He is not some cold judge that we must prove our worth to. He is a loving father with a compassionate and tender heart. He has gone ahead to prepare a way for us to be free of our burdens. He did it because he cares for you.
