I Called To You

Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.
— Psalms 30:2 ESV

Would you begin this time of seeking the Lord by asking God to draw you into his word? He loves to respond to our asking with his grace. God, bring me into your word today. Help me receive everything you have for me. Open my eyes to the transformational truth right before me.

As much as I love the complex scriptures that stretch my imagination and challenge me to research, question, and deeply contemplate, I am grateful for verses like Psalm 30:2 that get right to the point. I need these verses to get anchored in the simple truth of who God is without intellectual distractions or misinterpretation.

Jacob wrote about Psalm 23:1 a few days ago. That, also, is a simple and profound truth. If the Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Similarly, if I cry out to the Lord for help, he will heal me.

I am not saying that right now God is going to supernaturally heal my pinky toe that I stubbed on the fireplace last night. While I have faith that God can heal and desires to heal, I cannot deny that sometimes he does not heal in the way we expect. I have friends and family members dealing with chronic illness. They have been prayed over endlessly, but their condition has remained unchanged.

I do not want to react to the stories around me and start to lose faith in the fact that God does heal. God uses the physical sufferings we face to bring our spirit into a glory-to-glory destiny with heaven, but he also has the power to heal our broken bodies. Psalms 103:3 NLT says, “He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.”

Today I want to open the door for the Holy Spirit to confront our perspective on God as a healer. I have a sense that this will look different for each of us. Wherever God leads you, you are invited to take a few moments and press into his heart. Maybe that means you cry out to God like in Psalm 30:2. Perhaps it looks like grabbing a journal and a pen and sketching out your thoughts.

Let us listen and respond to the Lord today.
