The Gospel
“Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’”
What is the gospel? It is a simple question with a simple answer. The gospel is the good news of King Jesus and his Kingdom community. It is the good news of his life, death, resurrection, ascension, intercession, and soon coming return.
It is Jesus’ story. The story of a real man who lived the perfect life on our behalf, died the death we deserved, rose from the dead to make resurrection possible for us, ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of the father and intercede for us day and night, and He is coming back again to finalize the establishment of his kingdom. This is the gospel.
We never graduate from our need to hear the gospel. We are continuing to work out our salvation. We have not arrived at perfection. We have been made righteous and are in right standing with God because of Jesus.
We are saved by grace and through faith in Jesus Christ, but our salvation and right standing are still in need of being worked out here and now. That is why the response to the gospel should never change. Every time we read, hear, or talk about the gospel, there is an invitation to respond with repentance and belief.
Why? Because as we read, hear, or talk about it, we see again how much we need Jesus. We see how far we fall short of the glory of God. We see what sin and unbelief remain in our life. We see what is hindering us from following Jesus the king. We see what we must surrender to continue to follow our king as he seeks to partner with us to advance his kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
Jesus continues to announce that his kingdom has come and is coming. As he does, he is calling us to repent and believe. I invite you to take a moment to ask Holy Spirit two things:
First, ask Holy Spirit to fascinate you with King Jesus and the good news of his kingdom.
Second, Ask Holy Spirit to reveal anything that may be hindering you from following King Jesus and demonstrating his kingdom to others. Respond to Holy Spirit with repentance and belief. Ask him to help you repent and believe.
