Humility Is The Way

Psalm 25:9 (ESV) says, “He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.” Much of our culture values success and achievement over humility. There is often a higher value placed on being unique than humble. If we want to learn the ways of God, we first have to learn to be humble.

I love how James 4:10 (ESV) simplifies where we direct our humility. He says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” Our humility must be before the Lord. Anything else is a comparison game that traps us in false humility.

It is easy to overlook such amazing promises like these. Perhaps because pursuing humility is costly. It requires us to remove any lies we are agreeing with to prop ourselves up.

Everyone wants to be led by God and taught by God, but the doorway to this relationship comes through humility. As you go through your day, invite the Lord to teach you about humility in your life. It may be beneficial to spend some time writing down notes and meditating on where God is speaking to you, but I find that God is very often an active teacher.

He is ready to speak to you in every moment of your day. You won’t get it right every time. I won’t make it through today with perfect humility, but I can be open to God. Part of abiding is claiming the promises God has given us and then relying on him to lead us forward.

Amen.
