Tearing Down Strongholds
Today we are talking about the power that we have in Christ. It is a supernatural power given to us through the Holy Spirit because of Jesus Christ and his work on the cross. 2 Corinthians 10:4 (ESV) says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”
Spending our energy trying to defeat physical entities is fighting the wrong battle on the wrong front. It is not that we should ignore physical, social, or political issues, but that the power we have through Christ is spiritual.
We understand that there is a spiritual realm behind the natural realm. We believe the Lord is spirit and that there are dark spirits that constantly work to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). When we receive the empowerment that comes through the Holy Spirit, we carry authority over demonic agendas!
The strongholds we face look different, but the power is the same. It is said in Ephesians 1:19-20 (ESV), “and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places.”
The power that raised Jesus from the dead is the kind of power he is working in and through us. The question is not if we have power in Christ. It is about how we use that authority.
We can live a passive life hoping nothing happens to us, as we tolerate brokenness and deception in our generation, or we can engage in spiritual warfare of tearing down strongholds.
It starts with us. We have access to authority in the name of Jesus to break the bonds of sin and fear in our lives. God has freely given this authority to you.
So when you pray today, consider using the powerful name of Jesus. Consider the freedom that would result from a torn-down stronghold in your life.
Ask, seek, knock.
Amen.
