The Throne Of Grace
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
We have the privilege and invitation to boldly approach the throne of God’s grace because Jesus boldly paid for our freedom with his blood on the cross. Whenever we come into prayer in the secret place or throughout our day, God is prepared for us to come right into his presence and seek his guidance, deliverance, and help.
I want you to consider for a moment how high the cost was for God to send his son into the earth to redeem the world from sin and death. Think about the depths of the love of Jesus that would cause him to enter into our brokenness, be rejected and misunderstood, and ultimately die a violent death on a cross.
Jesus did this not just to prove a point but to reconnect us to the Father. He gives us access by his blood to draw near to God and be close to his presence. Without the blood of Jesus, we are condemned and cursed to die. His blood speaks the better word (Hebrews 12:24 NIV) of peace over our lives, declaring that we are forgiven, justified, and free.
This gift of grace was not offered to us so we could sit back and miss out on the grace that God gives. When we accept his salvation, we are immediately justified and redeemed, but we have to lean into the kingdom if we want to grow in holiness and wisdom.
We often talk about the simplicity of God’s kingdom operating on the basis of asking, seeking, and knocking found in Matthew 7:7. The truth is that it does not matter what we ask if the Father is not listening. It does not matter what we seek if the Spirit is hiding, it does not matter where we are knocking if the doors are bolted shut. Jesus calls us to freedom, and he calls us to engage in the kingdom because the Lord is ready to engage with us.
Consider this morning what grace you are leaving on the table. Are you dealing with grief? Addiction? Fear? Worry? Pain? Confusion? Anxiety? Depression? Any and all of these things can be faced with the grace of God on our side. It does not mean that every trial we face will magically get fixed as soon as we set our hearts on the Lord. That is not what grace means.
Hebrews 4 tells us that when we enter into the throne room of grace, the very presence of God, we will receive the mercy and grace that we need. For some, that may be miraculous healing or deliverance. For others that may mean we receive supernatural strength to face a chronic illness. Still, others may receive heaven’s grace to have patience and wisdom in difficult relationships or situations.
God has invited us to approach him boldly because he has made a bold claim of freedom on our lives. When you enter into his presence in your prayers, remember that you are the specific person he is waiting for. You are not coming into the throne room as a guest to temporarily get a solution. You were redeemed to dwell in the throne room. All the grace we need is found in the presence of the Lord, so continue in the lifestyle of abiding daily and ask the Lord for help in your time of need.
