Seeing Jesus

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
— John 1:14 ESV

Today we have a simple invitation. I want you to consider to what degree you can resonate with this verse. When you read John’s testimony, are you nodding along and taking him at his word, or are you stirred in your heart calling on memories of witnessing God’s glory?

Part of the inspiration for starting Abiding Daily was the recognition that many believers live their lives without some of the most precious, life-changing, and fundamental experiences and revelations we are given through the Spirit. It is why we talk at length about beholding his face, receiving the spirit of adoption, encountering his presence, and more. Not because these are the only things that matter in our faith, but because these are gifts that God gives us to grow our faith. These gifts are life-changing anchor moments in our spiritual journey that make Jesus very real and tangible to us.

John says in this verse that he and the others who followed Jesus have actually seen the glory of the Son. They witnessed something so divine, so glorious, so holy about Jesus that it changed their perspective on the entire world. Something about Jesus captivated them to believe that he was more than a man, a great prophet, and more than a revolutionary.

He was God.

They only believed this because of the witness of his word, signs, wonders, miracles, and ultimately his resurrection.

God holds none of this back from us.

He said in John 17:22 ESV that he desired that, “the glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one.” How astonishing it is that God desires to share his glory with us. Despite being broken and rebellious people, God’s love for us makes way for us to be reunited with peace, goodness, and love through Jesus Christ.

I do not want to overcomplicate this today. Do you want to experience more of his presence? Do you want to live closer to his heart? Do you want to know what he is thinking about you and others and live according to that truth? Do you want to abide in glory? The first step is to simply come. Come before him and ask him to show you more. Lay down your burdens and listen to his voice. Just show up and set your attention on Jesus.
