Trust & Rejoice

But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
— Psalm 13:5 ESV

As always, I encourage you to read the longer texts associated with the daily verse. Today you might want to grab your bible and flip open to Psalm 13 with me. Verse 5 is a pivot verse. It is the moment where David shifts his focus from the trouble around him to the faithfulness of his God.

I wonder if this is where you are today? We do not have to look far or get creative to identify areas of brokenness, oppression, or danger around us. I’m not trying to be pessimistic, but rather acknowledging that you can find a mess just about anywhere. We are broken people doing our best to get by.

David sets a great example for us. He points out the trials around him. He is gut-level honest about the headspace he is in and how he is feeling about the things he is facing. God is okay with our honesty. He can handle our questions and confusion, and he is big enough to face our frustrations or grief.

But he is also an eternally faithful God. In the midst of whatever you are facing, God is faithful. The practice of aiding daily helps us remain in the presence and truth of who Jesus is in any circumstance.

Sometimes we need a reminder that God’s love is steadfast and his salvation is sure. Sometimes we need a nudge in the direction of praise and rejoicing.

Would you consider where you are at today? How does rejoicing fit in the puzzle? I would encourage you not to simply ignore the issues you are facing. Put them before the Lord, but when you do, I want to invite you to come back to Psalm 13:5 and take a risk to step into rejoicing even when it does not yet make sense.

Remember, God is faithful.
