In The Morning

Psalms 5:3 (NIV) says, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” At the first of the day, we come before the Lord will all our burdens, requests, and needs. We put them at the feet of Jesus, but we don’t walk away. We wait expectantly. We put our hope in the Lord.

Sometimes this is incredibly hard. Sometimes we have more evidence around us that the situation is hopeless than we do that it is hopeful. The idea of coming before the Lord and waiting seems like the opposite of what we want to do.

The truth is that God has this in his hands. He is watching you and watching me. He is ready to bring hope into the darkness.

We can spend so much time wandering around with our baggage looking for a place of refuge. How many times will we walk by the Good Shepherd saying, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NIV), before we trust him and lay down the burdens?

I think this is the beauty of the morning sacrifice of prayer. Instead of waiting for the right moment throughout the day when we have to decide if we will surrender, we can begin building intentional confession, surrender, and prayer into our day.

The power of abiding daily is that we are training our soul in surrender. We are habitually offering our requests before the Lord and waiting expectantly. Would you try this with me today? Open your hands and offer that need to the Lord, then wait and watch. His desire is to bring you healing, hope, and freedom.
