Today let us remember the steadfast love of the Lord. Additionally, let us consider those that need to hear about God’s love. I’m thinking about our families, children, and grandchildren. Who needs to hear about the faithfulness of God today? Part of your abiding today can include telling your family about the goodness of God.

We like to reverse-engineer our faith. Maybe we look at our lives and see a lack of patience, so we think that restoring patience in our lives will restore our connection to God. The opposite is true. Restoring our connection to the Holy Spirit will restore patience in our lives.

That being said, I have found that the heart can be the hardest to connect in worship and prayer. Part of that could be the way previous and current generations do church. In many ways, worship and faith have moved heavily into the mind and strength category while drifting away from the heart and soul.

Of course, there are times of crisis and emergency in our lives where our awareness of our need for God is amplified. I do not think David is saying that our desire for God should feel like an emergency at all times, but that it should have depth and power.

Our desire with Abiding Daily is that you would move beyond reading words on a screen each morning into following a lifestyle of walking with God. The question then becomes, how do we move past mere devotion, past occasional check-ins with God, into full-on abiding?

Psalms 5:3 (NIV) says, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” At the first of the day, we come before the Lord will all our burdens, requests, and needs. We put them at the feet of Jesus, but we don’t walk away. We wait expectantly. We put our hope in the Lord.

Will you come to him passively? Will you be curious but unpassionate? Or will you reach out in desperate faith for more of his presence and healing in your life?
