Cast Your Worries
Today seemed like a perfect day to remember a central verse to the journey of abiding. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
It is rather hard to abide when we are stuck in worry. Worry is sort of the opposite of abiding. It is a fear and concern that consumes our thought life, grips our hearts, and sometimes immobilizes us. We all fall into it. While some of us are chronic worriers, most of us just face hard things in life.
Peter gives us a grid for dealing with anxieties that rise up. As we face anxieties, we cast those thoughts on Jesus. It is like a humongous exhale of all the garbage that fills our minds and hearts.
It is not that all of the problems disappear, but that we enter into partnership with Jesus in finding the solution. As we cast those anxieties on Jesus, he comes close to us with his wrap-around presence (Psalm 119:114 TPT).
In practicing this surrender, we are learning how to enter into abiding at any point in our day no matter what we face. The enemy likes to throw lies in our face. Some reading this today have believed that their worry disqualifies them from the love of God.
The truth is the exact opposite. Your worry is the doorway to experiencing the thing we needed all along—that he cares for you.
When we understand the Father’s caring love, it changes our perspective.
Practice flipping the worry into encounter today and watch as God works in your life, bringing peace, maturity, and rest.
Amen.
