He Is God

Psalm 100:3 ESV says, “Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

I am so thankful for this promise. It is like a step-by-step model for abiding. I often talk about the first part of this verse as a fundamental principle of worship. It may seem redundant, but it essentially says that our God is the God. When we know this in our souls, it amplifies our faith.

Sometimes God becomes a label or name we hear in Christian circles. Saying this name over and over can become mundane and meaningless if we are not meditating on his glory, love, and power. The psalmist urges us to remember that the Lord you keep talking about is actually the God of the universe.

Thanksgiving and praise begin with recognizing the worth of the one we honor. When we come into worship or prayer, it is good for us to take a moment to remember that he is God, he is very real, and that we are coming before him, and he is watching.

In a way, this verse begins by reminding us not to let familiarity steal our wonder. Do not let the simplicity of the gospel rob us of our gratitude.

Do you see the invitation today? It is to take what we already know and make sure that we handle it rightly. Check in on yourself and see if you have forgotten that this God is God. Consider how you have mislabeled the Lord. Begin to realign yourself with the truth of who God is. Along the way, perhaps God will show you even more about himself.

I challenge you to actually take a few moments and do this. Try to get away for even five minutes and meditate on the truth that God is God. I believe this simple practice will strengthen your resolve for worship and deepen your conviction to follow Jesus.
