We Are His
Psalm 100:3 ESV says, “Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”
Today we are focusing on the second part of this first. You can read our devotional on the first part here. This section speaks to our identity. Once we get ahold of the massive truth of who the Lord is to us, we can turn to who we are to him.
We are his creation.
It is easy to forget that God made us on purpose and with a design. He formed us so that we would know him and belong to him. This is such an honor!
We can lose sight of this personal and sacred relationship when we see God only through the lens of his principles and values and forget to see him as Father and Maker. We all do this. From every political, social, and religious perspective, people claim their views are the same as God’s perspective. Underneath this mindset is a sense that we are only worthy of God’s attention when we abide by those parameters.
The point is not to eliminate conviction. Indeed, obedience is critical to a life of faith. We need all these perspectives in their own way, but we must not forget that before we had a thought about who God was, he had a thought about us. It was an idea that stirred him to create you and mark you with his image.
We are his. That understanding is a central driving force to our abiding relationship with him. Not because it is a unique take, but because it is true! Failing to see God as our Father and Maker is failing to see him in one of the most important roles he has in our lives.
So many spiritual questions are solved as we become more aware of the truth that he created us, and we belong to him. God created you, and what he made is a good thing. Can you receive that today? When we rest in our place as his creation, we rest in his peace.
Continue your meditation today. Know that the Lord is God, that he made you, and that you are his.
