With You
John 14:3 ESV says, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”
Jesus spoke these words in what is understood as his final address to the disciples before his arrest and crucifixion. When I can see the context for what Jesus said in John 14-17, it shows just how tender and loving Jesus is. In the face of the most traumatizing and difficult trial, Jesus was still caring for his disciples.
One of his concerns was that his friends would have the assurance that he would not abandon them. The purpose of his going was to prepare the way for their reconnection.
Beyond the logistics of why going away matters, I want us to center in on the fact that Jesus just wants us to be with him. How precious is that?
Can you receive this truth today that Jesus wants you to be close to him and that part of his mission in heaven is preparing the way for you to be with him forever? That is how much he cares for you. That is the extent of his love and affection for you.
How does this simple revelation change how you see your relationship with God? While we spend our time trying to live up to God’s standards, he has already decided that we are worthy of his love. Even now, he is working to prepare the way for us to be with him.
I’m wondering, what lies are challenged by this truth? Do you believe that Jesus does not want to be around you? That he has abandoned you? That you’re not enough for him? Know that he is for you and he wants to be as close to you as possible.
