Fear Not

Isaiah 41:10 ESV says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

This is God’s promise for us today. Do you need strength? God will uphold you.

This is God’s promise for those who trust him. It is extended to all who would seek the Lord today. There are moments in our lives where God sustains us according to his providential wisdom, but a life of abiding is about seeking God, not idly waiting around.

We cannot get around the stories like Saul encountering the Lord on his way to Damascus. He was outright against the kingdom of God, but God chose him anyway. Still, Paul did not think that this grace was something to take lightly. He taught the Galatian church in Galatians 5:25 ESV, saying, “If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.”

So we find ourselves on a seesaw between God’s provisional grace and our choice to seek him. The best way I can describe a proper posture before the Lord is this: if we know we should seek God, and we choose not to, we throw away his grace; if he finds us in our weakness, when we cannot see the path forward, we can live in gratitude.

Some reading this verse will be reminded of a truth that has been forgotten. Others will be struck with a new revelation of God’s care for them. I encourage you to look to the top of this page and read that verse again. Indeed, those words are far more important and transformational than anything I am saying below.
