Psalms 46:1 | Ever-Present

Psalms 46:1 NIV says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

I seem to come back to this verse regularly. And while I try to avoid repeating too many verses, I have no problem repeatedly bringing this message of hope.

God is our refuge. He is the one we can come to for protection. When we face danger or challenges, he is a safe place. Thank you, God.

God is our strength. He empowers us and fights for us. When we are out of strength, he is our more-than-enough.

He is our ever-present help. None of us would question God’s ability to rescue, but we may question his willingness to help us. This verse strikes me as foundational for a life of abiding. God promises that he will be a help in the moment of our need.

Do you need an ever-present help? Sometimes we confuse God’s discipline, pruning, and maturing with his absence. God will take the training wheels off at some point, and it can feel like we are all alone. This is a simple metaphor for how God grows us in our journey with him. He may even let us fall off the bike a few times as we learn how to balance and master the skill.

We can remember that God is not interested in punishing or neglecting us. He would never let you ride your bike over a dangerous cliff. So we can see that growth and trouble are not the same things.

I want to build your faith today. God is present in whatever you are facing. He will not forsake you.
