Luke 10:18 | Victory
In Luke 10:18 NIV, Jesus says, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
Remember that God knows what it is like to win. He is a victor, a champion, and a king. I spend much time talking about God in this devotional as he expresses himself in love and comfort. God is a tender Father and longs to restore us to his family as sons and daughters. A considerable part of this ministry is helping people get back to the basics of being a child of God.
But we cannot forget that God knows immense power. Consider the immediacy and the finality of Satan falling like lightning from heaven. Does it seem like he was ever a contender? Was there a competition? A power struggle? A fair fight?
Not in the least.
God is a God of holiness and power. His strength is immeasurable. His wisdom is unsearchable. He is the definition of glory and power.
So when Satan rebelled against the Most High, he fell like lightning.
The point of this is not to scare you but to strengthen you. God is for you, and he will not let your enemies triumph over you. What’s more, he has given us his power. The following few verses say, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:19-20 NIV).
God has given us a similar authority through the Holy Spirit to stand up against demonic strongholds and agendas in the name of Jesus. He has invited us to join in the testimony that the enemy fell like lightning in his name. There’s no power struggle with Jesus. He holds the victory.
Finally, while remembering his power and might is important, the greatest gift is the gift of salvation. This morning we rejoice that our names are written in heaven.
