Isaiah 53:5 | Peace

Isaiah 53:5 NIV prophesies, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

Thank you, Jesus.

In all the spirituality of prayer and the religion of being righteous, it is easy to become self-centered. If we aren’t careful, we start to believe that the freedom and peace we experience are all because of us.

Then we read Isaiah 53.

We see the prophetic depiction of what Jesus the Messiah would endure. We begin to understand that what Christ did for us was because we needed it. Otherwise, we were utterly entrenched in hopelessness.

Maybe you never knew what Jesus did for you, and you’ve found your way to this blog. Isaiah reminds us that when Jesus sacrificed his life on the cross, it was so we could be made whole. When they pierced his hands and feet, it was to take on our sin. When they crushed him by surrounding him and beating him, it was to take on our iniquity. When they punished him with death row, it was so that we could live in peace. When they whipped him and beat him, it was so we could be healed.

This is the love of God extended to us through the blood of the lamb.

It might be hard to look at, but I find that nothing purifies us from sin and iniquity like the cross. Would you receive the invitation to sit in this prophetic moment with me? Would you be courageous enough to meditate on the cross of Christ that has set you free? Would you consider each of these descriptions of Christ’s passion and recognize that he endured it for you?

Come to the cross and find freedom.
