Ephesians 6:10 | Strong in the Lord

Ephesians 6:10 ESV says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.”

A few months ago, my dad preached through this passage of Ephesians. He reminded our church that God calls us to be strong because there will be something to endure.

We often think of strength in the sense of power. The image of a strongman lifting the massive boulder might come to mind. The truth is that this strength came from years and perhaps decades of training their muscles to endure the strain of exercise.

To say to be strong is to call to endurance.

Yet God does not call us to be strong in our own strength. He isn’t calling us to fortify our religion. He calls us to be strong “in the strength of his might.” This means that we will need supernatural power to overcome the challenges ahead.

This power is given to us to overcome evil in the spiritual realm. We know that God is Spirit and that there are fallen angels that work to thwart the kingdom of God. This can be very mysterious and hard to grasp for many people. Even those who are comfortable in spiritual warfare confess that it is all still a mystery. What I am saying is that to think we can just head off the enemy without God’s power within us is foolish.

I am so thankful today that God gives us the power to stand firm and live in freedom. I am so glad he does not demand that we prove our ability to fight on our own, but he invites us to rest in him while he fights our battles.

Do you need strength today? Call on the Lord. Pray to God and ask him to help you stand firm in the strength of his might.

He is a great God!
