Psalm 1:3 | In Season

Psalm 1:3 ESV says, “He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

When we meditate on the word of God and live in the presence of the Holy Spirit, our lives become rooted and strong. Psalm 1 reminds us that this steadfast life looks like a healthy tree planted by streams of water. Can you picture that tree? Strong and healthy. Reaching high into the sky and plunging its roots into the soil.

This tree is fruitful. It produces fruit according to its design. It stays flourishing and prospering throughout the seasons.

Do you desire a life like this?

This passage was written long before the coming of Jesus and the sending of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps readers could testify that these words were true over the years, but we could live this verse when the Holy Spirit came. Instead of merely recognizing the power of God’s word and the surety of his truth, we can experience these words in our lives.

When we abide, we become the tree planted by the streams of water that represent the Holy Spirit. God’s favor and power in our lives allow us to produce fruit in our season and stay flourishing always. Just like this tree nourished by the river, we can remain nourished by the Lord.

Will you come to the word of God today? Will you allow the truth and power of the word to transform your life? Will you allow the Lord to plant you by streams of water?
