MATTHEW 8:7 | WILLING TO HEAL

In Matthew 8:7 NLT, Jesus says, “I will come and heal him.”

Let’s not overlook the power of the willingness of Jesus to heal. Let’s not forget Jesus’ faithfulness to step into our needs and restore us. Jesus was never forced to heal anyone. He chose, again and again, to bring the power of God’s love to all who asked because of the compassion in his heart.

In chapter 8 of Matthew, a Roman officer comes to Jesus asking for help. His servant was paralyzed and suffering. Perhaps an accident took place, and the servant was injured. It didn’t have to matter to Jesus. He could have said he didn’t have time. He could have justified that he was ministering to the Israelites, not the Gentiles. Still, he chose to come.

I consider that healing, restoration, and the power of God’s presence come to us not because we deserve it but because God is willing.

We may ask, position ourselves rightly, and seek out his power in our lives, but ultimately, we only hope to encounter God because he wants to encounter us first. Remember, 1 John 4:19 ESV says, “We love because he first loved us.”

In every scenario, we are the ones receiving undeserved grace from God. Even the most devout follower of Christ could only claim holiness because it came to them through the power of the Holy Spirit. All the great wonders of the Apostles in the Bible and the many leaders throughout history were accomplished not through human strength but through divine power.

We can only respond in two ways to this reality of God’s goodness to us. First, we can be grateful. We can thank God that he chose to love us and call us his own. We can celebrate that his presence is with us and that his blood covers all our sins. Second, we can be in awe. We can wonder at the majesty of God becoming so personal and impactful in our lives and the lives of many others.

Sit in the power of Jesus’ willingness to heal today. Perhaps you want to take a posture of surrender and openness to the Lord. Ask him to show you more of his glory and grace. Amen.
