PROVERBS 3:6 | ACKNOWLEDGE HIM

Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

It takes practice to acknowledge God in all our ways. Many scriptures use this ultimate language like always and never. When we see that, we can pay attention because God is not exaggerating. What if God’s commands to always or never do something are foundational secrets for living in freedom and following the heart of God?

What does it look like to acknowledge God in all our ways? Let's move past the easy ones like prayer and worship. It is easy to recognize God when things go our way. When we get a breakthrough in our spiritual growth. Even things like getting a promotion or buying that new iPhone are moments where it could be easy to thank God and recognize his presence in your life.

All encompasses all—the good and the bad. I think it is easy to recognize God in the extremely bad. Humans tend to look to faith in moments of crisis and disaster. When it comes to life's mundane, dull, weak moments, are we looking to God?

I find that God is equally present on the mountainside as he is at the summit or in the valley. The more we recognize God and acknowledge his presence, the better we can understand how he works in our lives.

My challenge today is to try and tune in more than usual to what God is doing around you. Maybe you want to throw a few reminders on your phone or stick a post-it note on your car's dashboard.

There is a promise in this invitation. As we acknowledge God, he straightens our paths. He wants to straighten our courses, but he does this through careful instruction and guidance as we continually look to him. I think of this verse from Psalm 62:8 ESV, which says, “Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.”
