PSALM 23:1 | REST

Psalms 23:1 NLT says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.”

Rest is found in the presence of the shepherd. In his pasture, we have everything we need.

It is difficult to abide in the rest of God. Sometimes it feels like everything in us is driving us away from rest. Whether it be anxiety and fear of the unknown stealing your peace, the inability to say no, or lack of contentment fueling overworking, we all have our path out of rest.

That is why many Bible passages talk about returning to rest. Remember when Jesus said to come to him and rest?

I’m so thankful that we serve a God who continually invites us to rest when we stray from this place of peace. His gentle patience beckons us back to the pasture to live under his care. The eyes of the shepherd are on you.

When you read this verse, can you hear the invitation? In times of unrest, this is a prophetic statement. Perhaps it is better to read, “When I make the Lord my shepherd, I will have all that I need.” Rest follows trust. And sometimes faith is as simple as stopping, taking a breath, and acknowledging God.

Do you need rest today? My guess is that you do.

I pray that as you step into rest, you hold onto rest. God has provided his Holy Spirit as a comforter and leader in our lives. He leads us to rest and peace.

Pray this prayer with me.

God, I’m here in your presence. I hear your invitation to rest and know that I lack nothing when I am with you. Help me to hear your voice. Open my heart to your promptings and leadings. Show me where I need to surrender business, chaos, fear, or striving. Right now, I’m here to rest, and I know that perfect rest is found in you.
