Who He Is

Psalms 103:8 NLT says, “The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.”

God, we thank you for who you are and for revealing yourself to us through your word.

I love how this simple verse stands defiantly in the face of so many lies we are led to believe about who God is. The enemy wants to trick us into thinking that God is harsh, cruel, and judgmental. Satan works to downplay and disprove the love and goodness of God, but he will never succeed.

God does not just excel at being compassionate and merciful. He is compassion, and he is mercy. He is the perfect example of these things and the most comprehensive record of everything it means to be good.

Can you see him today? Do you see the goodness of the Lord on display?

When you read a verse like Psalms 103:8, does your heart spring forward in faith, or do you lean back in skepticism? There is no condemnation for either response. It is good to be honest with ourselves about where we are at in our spiritual journey.

Know that God is not put off or offended by any lack of faith in his character. Remember, he is slow to become angry and filled with unfailing love. No matter what your response is to this verse, God’s response is one filled with mercy and love. He desires to bring you closer to his heart through the truth presented before us today.

Will you invite him to take you deeper? Whether you can confidently boast in these verses or if you adamantly disagree, would you take the risk and plunge deeper into God’s presence today? There is no magic word or ritual, only a simple prayer and an invitation.

I encourage you to finish this prompt and take a few moments to pray and ask God to help you. He does not turn away from us when we ask him for help, but his compassionate heart is moved toward us to bring us into love.

Seek him today and remember who he is.
