Alive Today
1 Peter 1:3 ESV says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
Just hours before Christ went to the cross to suffer and die, he shared the word recorded in John 15 that we based this ministry on. It says in John 15:4 ESV, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.”
It strikes me that Jesus shared these words of promise right before the cross. He invited the disciples to deep and abiding intimacy with him, and then, in another moment, he was gone.
When Christ returned from the dead, it communicated a new meaning to this upper room discussion about being united with Jesus. Suddenly the context for such communion was no longer based on physical proximity or earthly relationship. When Jesus taught us that we could abide in him and him in us, he referred to a spiritual union.
How much greater is this invitation knowing that we are reborn into a living hope?
Today as we reflect on the story of Christ’s passion and resurrection, I am reminded that this is not just a monumental historical event. This is a story that we are still living in.
Because of Christ’s resurrection, we are alive today in Christ.
The Monday after Easter is no less powerful than Easter itself because the story of resurrection never ends. Would you respond to the invitation to living hope by remembering you have access to life itself?
Consider that the resurrection power of God is the same power you are invited to abide in today.
He is alive… today and forever.
Amen!
