Worship Builds Faith
Psalm 103:1 ESV says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!”
Sometimes the only path to worship is to command your soul to bless the Lord, even when you don’t feel like it. Sometimes you have to l go against the grain and call to your soul to worship and give thanks, even when the situation around you says the opposite.
Blessing the name of the Lord doesn’t always feel natural. Thankfully, our mood or situation doesn’t change the goodness of God or his worthiness of our worship.
The strength and depth of our worship are hyper-developed in trials and seasons of struggle. It is easy to stand up on a Sunday and lift our hands in praise to God when everything is going the way we expect! It is easy to come before God in thankful prayer immediately after blessings have come into your life. Yet it is just as easy to forget the goodness of God when life gets hard.
The human heart is prone to follow the path of least resistance. Without a conviction and purpose, we are swayed with the winds of life. We are drawn to riches, excitement, and momentum and driven away from the boring, stagnant, and challenging things.
Despite this, God invites us to stand firm at all times through his strength. That doesn’t mean we constantly play pretend. It just means that you can give God honor in all circumstances and he will receive it.
More than that, God can use trials, loss, and even mundane moments to bring about transformation. This realization reshapes how we view worship. It redefines what an appropriate moment of thanksgiving is. We might echo what is written in Psalm 34:1 ESV, saying, “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
When we are convinced that God is always worthy of praise and thanksgiving, we can learn to discipline our hearts and inner being to align with this truth. Since we know we are commanded to bless the Lord always, we are invited to learn what this means in our daily life. The revelation won’t come immediately, but in time, we will see how Psalm 103 is a secret weapon of praise.
Perhaps this is the essence of maturing in God. God with us in the highs and lows and everywhere in between builds a resilience and confidence in our lives. This is how worship builds faith.
