I Love Your Law

Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.

Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.

- PSALM 119:97 ESV

Yesterday, Nate said to me, “I feel like in many ways Psalm 119 is the exact heartbeat of the daily invitation.” I asked Nate to tell me more of what he meant.

Simply put, he meant that Psalm 119 is about love for the Lord and his word, which is produced by abiding daily. The purpose of the Daily Invitation is to invite you into fellowship with God through Holy Spirit inspired invitations based on the Scriptures. Our hope is that as you meditate on a portion of scripture Holy Spirit will draw you into conversation with God that produces deep love for him.

We want people to experience intimate fellowship with Jesus that compels them to passionately love him. We want the result of our love for Jesus to be compassion towards people and radical obedience.

Psalm 119:97 reveals the heart posture of one who passionately loves God, shows compassion towards people, and radically obeys. It reveals the heart posture abiding in Christ produces: A posture of deep love for God’s Word.

Amongst believers around the world, there are some major misunderstandings of God’s Word. I want to point out two. On one hand, there are believers who are passionate about obedience to God’s Word, but their passion is motivated by duty and legalism. Obedience to God’s word is detached from intimacy with God.

On the other hand, there are believers who question the divine inspiration and modern-day application of God’s Word, choosing to live based on what feels good. This group of believers is driven by a false grace message that emphasizes the forgiveness of sins without the message of holiness and life transformation.

God is looking for people who have received his love and are moved by his love to love him. The result is love for and obedience to his word. In John 14:23-24, Jesus says, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.”

To love God is to keep his commandments. When we do, he promises to dwell with us. Could God be absent from some people’s lives and churches because there is a lack of love for and obedience to his word? Whether or not that is the case, I am asking God to produce deep love for his word in myself and the global Church. Will you join me?
