Day To day
“Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.”
The Psalmist describes the lifestyle of living in God’s presence. Worship is not contained to a moment in time during a music service. It is not limited to your Spotify or Apple Music playlist. You do not have to hop on YouTube to enter into praise. Worship is an ongoing, day to day practice of recognizing the Lord and ascribing glory to his name (Psalm 96:8).
There is truth to the teaching that our work is worship. In a way, everything we do that is for the glory of God is an offering to the Lord. Living in righteousness, justice, and peace pleases God. It is the act of offering ourselves to the Lord as Paul says in Romans 12:1 ESV, saying, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
However, there can be a temptation to use our work as an excuse to avoid worship. Scripture does not hide the importance of singing to the Lord and lifting praises, blessing, and thanksgiving apart from any act or deed. There is still a fitting and rightful form of worship that engages our spirit in adoration and praise to the Lord.
Not limited to singing, but certainly accompanied by singing, worship is our day to day duty and invitation. When we intentionally pause throughout our day to bless the Lord, whether through song or prayer, we are ascribing glory to his name.
The revelation of Psalm 96 and the teaching of Romans 12:1 are in no way at odds with one another. Scripture paints the picture of a believer that learns to live a life worthy of the calling of Christ, surrenders all, works diligently unto the Lord, and ministers in prayer, and worships with praises and blessings.
This is a fuller picture of what it means to abide daily. I encourage you today to continue living your life as a sacrificial offering of worship, but I urge you to begin building a culture of new song praise (Psalm 96:1) into your day. Practice pausing to give thanks to the Lord like Jesus did in Luke 10:21-22. A life of abiding is intermixed with godly work, heavenly praise, and faithful prayers.
