JOHN 1:16 | FULLNESS & GRACE

John 1:16 says, “For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.”

I think at a fundamental level, humanity is looking for fullness. Perhaps we look for it in wealth and fame. Maybe we believe thrills and experiences will satisfy us. Many look for fulfillment in a relationship. Yet here, at the beginning of the gospel of John, we have a promise of fullness and grace that come from the very nature of Christ the Son.

When we encounter God in his fullness, we live in grace. What is he full of? He is full of truth, righteousness, goodness, love, mercy, and so much more. I invite you today to meditate on one or two aspects of who Jesus is to you. Recognize that because he is perfect, we have the grace to be good. Because he is wise, we have the grace to understand and learn his ways. You can fill in the blank as you consider God’s nature.

When you think about it, everything that is good and true in our lives comes straight from the reality that the fullness of Christ is extended to us. Thank you, God.

Perhaps today is also an invitation to remember that God is God. What I mean is that we can get used to being around religious things and forget just how radical it is that we consider Jesus to be divine, holy, and glorious.

It’s radical, yet this is the beauty of coming alive in Christ. How amazing is it that simply meditating on the truth of who God is can lead to an encounter with God that brings us more profound revelation, conviction, and freedom? Lean into his presence today.
