Earnestly Seek

About a week ago, we read Psalm 63:1 as our verse for the day. Today I want to revisit that passage from a new perspective. The verse says, “O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you.” David gives us a simple roadmap for prayer: acknowledge who God is, and seek him wholeheartedly.

Take a moment and consider the degree to which you have been seeking the Lord lately. There is no intention to shame anyone here. We all have different life circumstances that get in the way of our pursuit of Jesus. Still, I want us to think about how we have been seeking God. Has it been passive or active? Are we complacent or intentional? Is seeking him a priority or an inconvenience?

One thing I know for sure is that those who seek God find him.

Sometimes the enemy uses a lie against us, saying that since we cannot see God, he cannot be found. The darkness of this lie masks the truth I hope to deliver today, which Jesus said plainly in Matthew 7 and in other gospels. If you seek, you will find.

The only ones who do not find are the ones who do not seek. Will you earnestly seek God today?

Maybe you do not feel worthy. Remember, God paid for you to be free with his blood. He did that before you or I demonstrated our worth to him. In fact, he did that while we were still sinning against him. He has intentionally given everything to open the door for you to seek him.

Maybe you do not feel like you can. Remember, Jesus said that the kingdom of God belongs to those who become like little children. Access to the presence of God is as simple as childlike faith.

Maybe you do not feel like it will be worth it. Remember, every good and perfect gift comes from above. God is the giver of good gifts, and he loves to give his favorite gift of all: the Holy Spirit.

Seek him today with earnest expectation. Perhaps you need to go into a room and shut the door or find somewhere alone in nature. Whatever you need to do, seek the Lord today wholeheartedly.
