Fearless Heart

I continually come back to the simplicity of abiding. Part of this practice is keeping our pursuit of God simple and centered on the reality that God is God, and we can trust him. I’ve been meditating on Psalms 27 the last few days. It is a clear declaration of confidence in God that can root us in times of uncertainty.

Psalms 27:3 NIV says, “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.” At what point could our faith in God break down? Even in the face of an army rising against us, God can still bring victory.

That does not mean that we become indestructible superheroes just because we believe in God. But it does mean that we recognize God’s greatness and faithfulness to his people.

Perhaps this verse is pressing into dangerous territory in our Christian doctrine. Does God allow suffering or cause it? Does God always deliver us, or are his ways higher than ours? We will never fully answer these questions because they are founded on our experiences and the testimonies of countless people who called on the Lord.

When we come into a time of devotion and prayer like this morning, we do not always have to have a clear-cut explanation for something. There is still great value in meditating on the word of God without knowing all the answers. In fact, if we skip over this practice, we often miss critical insights the Lord wants to show us.

When we read the scriptures, it is like a window into God’s heart. We get to look at him and his nature and his promises. We may not understand everything we perceive, but we are still beholding the Lord. Those tiny seeds of faith grow into revelations at the proper time.

So the invitation today is to become immersed in this truth about a fearless heart and unshakable confidence in the King of Kings. Allow the Holy Spirit to show you where you might be putting your trust in other things. Ask the Lord to open your eyes to see a deeper truth in his word.

Seek him today… even when you don’t have all the answers.
