Faith Today
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.” — Colossians 2:6 ESV
It’s easy to fall into living on yesterday’s faith. Paul certainly noticed this problem in the church of Colossae when he wrote this letter. The truth is that yesterday’s faith is not enough for today. Why do you think Lamentation 3:22-23 ESV says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
We have access to new mercy and new faith each day, so we are not just called to be diligent for the sake of a routine. We are called to walk daily in Christ because there is continually more to discover about life with God.
God has called us to a life of abundant freedom and constant companionship. God is not interested in watching us struggle to figure out life. He is invested in an abiding relationship through the Holy Spirit. This is the way that he wants to live in you. He is not satisfied with a long-distance relationship, and you shouldn’t be either.
Of course, there will be dry seasons when it is hard to hear God’s voice. There may be times when sensing his presence is challenging or seemingly impossible. We can look to God for grace to press through in these seasons. We have the faith to believe that God is with us in all circumstances.
I have so many scriptures I want to include in this devotional, but I want you to lean into the message and ask God to show you more. Take this opportunity to ask God to guide you into a personal encounter this morning. That does not mean you need to experience some supernatural wonder. It just means that God wants to engage with you in a transformational way today. That could be simple or dramatic, but it will be filled with glory and love when it comes from his heart.
I urge you to desire deeper intimacy and closeness with God. Look to the scriptures to keep you on the right course and take a risk to make your faith personal. You do not have to know all the answers to begin seeking God in his word today. You do not have to have the correct interpretation for God to start speaking to you through his scriptures.
Have you received Christ? Walk in him.
Let today be marked by the comforting closeness of the Holy Spirit. Turn your attention toward him, straining to see him in every moment.
He will show each of us how to walk in him as we ask and listen.
Amen.
