The Glory of The Lord

Habakkuk 2:14 NIV says, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”

What a beautiful picture. This morning I want to urge your soul to be ready for that day of glory.

We do not know when the return of Christ will come, but we are called to be ready. Lately, God has been challenging me with a particular message. It is a sobriety to realize that any area of my faith where I am being passive, apathetic, or rebellious is a severe problem. I think about the call to spread the gospel. Have I been burning with a hunger to see more people saved? I consider the call to prayer. Have I been faithful to seek the Lord on behalf of the city God has me in?

I don’t want to be caught off guard regarding God’s kingdom. I don’t want to miss something when the Lord's glory appears.

If the secret of God’s glory got out, how would those who had never heard of God respond? Would their joy and faith be more exuberant than ours, who have known and sought after him? I’m afraid that a new believer who encounters Jesus might shame the diluted faith of many who have walked with God for decades. I’m being dramatic on purpose, not to point the finger at someone’s failures, but to raise the urgency in our hearts for faithful obedience.

I have this desire in my being that I would be fully dwelling in God’s glory so that at the first break of revival, I would be welcoming the king, not processing the radical changes. I want to be so desperate for God’s kingdom that every increase would be something I am anticipating, not reacting to.

Understand this morning that this verse is a promise. God’s glory will cover the earth like the waters cover the sea. We may not see that day, but it is coming. How will we position ourselves today?

Let the clarity of this promise focus your prayers and posture toward the Lord today. Ask God to show you more of his glory today. What are you waiting for? God’s glory is our inheritance! Lean into his presence anew today.
