Deuteronomy 7:9 | UNBELIEVABLY FAITHFUL

Deuteronomy 7:9 ESV says, “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.”

Would you press pause on whatever you are thinking right now to behold God in his faithfulness?

It doesn’t matter if you feel like an A+ Christian or an utter failure—God is still good.

I believe in the power of coming to God in prayer, seeking to grow spiritually and become more mature. This process involves bringing our concerns, questions, and confessions before the Lord. It is good to sit in his presence and let his loving wisdom transform us.

Yet it is just as good to set all that aside and see how big and faithful God is. Think about this with me. When God spoke these words to the people of Israel thousands of years ago, he was making a promise that would stretch into this moment. We are one of those generations. If a generation were just 30 years, that would be 30,000 years from that moment. I couldn’t find a clear answer for when Deuteronomy was written, but 2022 is not even close to 30,000 years past this promise.

I can’t conceive that length of time. It's over ten million days of faithfulness! Ha! Can you get a glimpse of the magnitude of God’s steadfast love?

I think God’s faithfulness is meant to be so humongous that we would be foolish even to try to measure it. It can’t be done!

So take a minute and sit in wonder of God’s faithfulness. Realize that even if you think Deuteronomy was a long time ago, God is just getting started on his initial promise of faithfulness. Realize that this God is the God who says to us through 1 John 3:1 ESV, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are!”

Rest in God’s promise today.
