Proverbs 8:19 | WISDOM’S WORTH

Proverbs 8:19 ESV says, “My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold, and my yield than choice silver.”

Have you invested in wisdom?

Proverbs 8 has to be one of my favorite chapters of the Bible. It describes the beauty and worth of wisdom. I encourage you to take the time today or this weekend to read the whole chapter and meditate on wisdom.

There are many things to run after in life—worldly pleasures, money, fame, notoriety, even knowledge, and education. Yet none can compare to the worth of wisdom in our lives.

Wisdom is one of the seven spirits of God! It is a part of his nature and goes beyond the natural into the supernatural.

People often describe wisdom as knowledge played out in our actions. Perhaps this is a partial view of wisdom. When I read Proverbs 8, I see a more divine image of wisdom. The writer of proverbs describes wisdom as an essential part of who God is and how God operates. Wisdom is the lens through which God sees and the blueprint for how he works.

Therefore, to desire wisdom is to desire the ways of God above all else! And to know wisdom must come from knowing God. That is why scripture says in Proverbs 9:10 ESV, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”

I wonder what has become more urgent in your life than knowing wisdom? What has consequently taken precedence over your pursuit of God?

Join me in coming before God in prayer, surrendering anything that gets in the way of knowing God, and asking for wisdom.

Amen.
