Psalm 111:7 | A Just God

“The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy;”

Psalm 111:7 ESV

When we put something in the hands of God, we can trust that he will handle it with faithfulness and justice.

How good is it to serve a God that we can trust? I often consider how radical it is that God is filled with goodness and love. He has such incredible power and glory that he doesn’t need to compel people to serve him. He could rightfully demand our worship and give nothing in return. Even if God were vindictive, angry, and mean, it would still be wise to serve and worship him through the misery of such a reality.

Instead, God takes delight in showing his goodness and faithfulness to his people. Of all the things that describe God, faithfulness is one of the most foundational attributes of his nature.

If God is anything, he is faithful.

He is mercifully slow to anger and wonderfully full in steadfast love (Psalm 103:8). God’s ways are good.

The invitation this afternoon is to consider the faithfulness of a just God. What God does, who he is, and what he stands for are worth putting our trust in. It will take time to grow in understanding God's ways, but there is hardly a greater joy than the continual discovery of the depth of God’s truth.

Pause and consider the trustworthiness of God. Invite the Holy Spirit to counsel you today and teach you to see the ways of his faithfulness and justice. Let your recognition of his ways be your act of worship.
