Mark 6:53-56 | Christ In You

Mark 6:53-56 NIV says, “When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there. As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.”

Do you recognize Jesus in your life today?

We can read through this passage without sitting in how astonishing and radical these words are. Try and picture the scene with me. Jesus gets off the boat, and one after another, people recognize that this is the prophet, the messenger, the teacher, or perhaps the Messiah. Electricity runs through the crowd as people realize the power and deliverance waiting for them.

Before long, it was a mad dash to gather up everyone who had an unfixable problem. Can you see people literally running home to tell their loved ones that hope is here?

When Jesus showed up, he carried the hope of heaven with him. The people brought together all who were sick into the downtown square so Jesus could meet with all of them. There was so much healing power that all it took was a touch of Christ’s robe for restoration to be released.

This must have been a heavenly sight, but we don’t have to go back in time to encounter God. Do you remember Paul’s message of hope in Colossians 1:27 NIV? He reveals the mystery of the gospel, which is, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

As much as I would have loved to see Jesus perform a mass-healing service, I recognize that we have something greater available right now. The Spirit of God dwells within us and abides in us. We don’t live for radical miracle moments. We live to intimately know the one who is the healer by daily living in his presence.

The result of living in God’s kingdom is hard to comprehend. As we live connected to the vine, the very things that Jesus performed become our call and purpose. Instead of merely looking for evidence of God’s supernatural power in our lives, we become ambassadors of this heavenly kingdom. We are invited to carry the glory of God, his power and love, to everyone around us and spread the gospel of hope through our testimony of truth and through the signs and wonders that follow God’s people.

So I ask you to go back to the beginning of this journey. Do you recognize Jesus in your life today? We don’t have to wait for him to get off the bus in our hometown. He is standing at the door of our hearts today. He is right here with us. Open your heart to him. Ask him to be with you this week. Live every moment in his presence.
