The Daily Invitation
Every day we have an opportunity to discover more about God and respond to his invitation to live in love and experience freedom. The Daily Invitation outlines the many ways Scripture calls us to know and follow God. By reflecting on these promises, believers are called to receive God’s give of grace, seek him earnestly, and surrender their lives.

I John 1:1 | The Word of Life
Whenever I set aside my burdens and needs to abide in God’s presence, I discover that he already knows what I need. He has already considered the difficulties of my life, and he already has the desire in his heart to bring transformation and growth. It’s humbling and astonishing to find myself in the presence of such a generous and compassionate God.
James 1:5 | God’s Generosity
Our faith journey is like this. There is no spiritual “budget” when it comes to what our Father provides. Do we come to God only asking for what we think we can afford?
James 1:17 | Every Good Gift
Set aside the desire for the things of this earth. Look above. God is giving gifts of love, joy, and peace to those who ask. They descend from heaven and find a home in the hearts of those filled with his Holy Spirit. Forsake the promises of the shadows to receive today’s mercy and grace from the Father of lights.
Romans 5:5 | God’s Hope
What does it say about the human heart’s relationship to hope? I ran harder and with renewed energy because someone offered me hope. I didn’t have any physical boost in power, but perhaps it was just a mental shift away from despair and toward hope. It is incredible what people of hope are capable of.
Romans 6:23 | The Gift of God
God’s salvation is a gift. No amount of striving will get you a place closer to the front of the line. No amount of failure will push you to the back of the line. There is no line! It is just Christ extending his grace to each one of us. We can receive it with joy or turn away and keep trying in our own strength.
James 3:17-18 | The Wisdom From Above
These simple tools may be some of the most explicit directions for a life of abiding. When I read them, it seemed like the list was not exactly what I would have come up with. Still, if these are the directions for showing peace, what kind of freedom would be available to those who respond and obey?
Romans 12:2 | Be Transformed
Instead, God uses this power to reign as a generous and gracious God. Our invitation is not the bondage of slavery. He invites us to be like him through the transformational work that comes from encountering God and being disciplined by the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 4:18 | The Unseen Things
The promise of the unseen glory and the joy of salvation drove him to the cross. Similarly, when our hope is in Christ, fixed on the unseen things, we find the greatest capacity to live sacrificially in our physical reality. All our physical demonstrations of faith are unto the unseen things, namely the things I’d heaven, but also from this unseen realm.
Matthew 7:7 | Seeing God’s Ways
This isn’t to say that a simple prayer request magically resolves the issue. God’s solutions are rarely as narrow and practical as ours. God is a master designer and architect. His solutions are more than handouts or vending machines and more like elaborate stories written from the ripple effects of seemingly mundane moments.
Colossians 3:15 | The Rule of Peace
Sometimes the stress of life and the burdens we carry become so overwhelming that we check out. We put an emotional box around our concerns and try to avoid facing the pressures on us. In time, this avoidance leaves room for “rulers” to enter the political stage of our hearts. Fear, chaos, worry, pride, resentment, bitterness, and anger creep into our hearts, calling the shots and lobbying their arguments. Our ruler ceases to be peace.
Job 36:5 | Strength of Understanding
Praying the scriptures and allowing these simple truths to form a “prayer vocabulary” for our spiritual journey is essential. The second half of this verse proposes a new understanding of God’s greatness, saying that he is “mighty in strength of understanding.” I find these words to be a fascinating insight into the glory of God, yet I can’t say I fully understand what it means!
Mark 10:49 | An Invitation to Dignity
How far does this invitation go? It extends to the lowliest outcasts of society. Standing before the blind beggar, Jesus honors the man by allowing him to make his request before God. Can you see that the fact that Jesus even listened shows unprecedented mercy and honor?
John 14:15-17 | Eternal Helper
Here we are at the intersection of our will to grow and God’s ability to keep his promises. Jesus laid out a clear path to growth. One where his faithfulness compels us to obey his commandments and where his love causes us to grow in love.
John 10:27 | Hearing God
I wonder if this is because hearing God’s voice isn’t a skill to develop as much as a gift to unwrap. What if hearing God was something that we just have? What if this gift was as fundamental to our existence as breathing in and out?
Luke 18:17 | Entering The Kingdom
If a child dancing on the street corner already has everything they need to enter God’s kingdom, why do we think we need to grow up and strive toward acceptance? Kids get to enter the kingdom freely because, in the kingdom of God, the Father supplies everything we need, freedom is fully available in the Spirit, and restoration is found in the name of Jesus. How odd is it to try to earn our way into an all-expenses-paid invitation?
