Psalm 19:10 | Sweeter Than Honey
I don’t sense that God is in much of a hurry with this. Religion calls us to put on a show and get everything in order quickly. Faith in God depends on God’s ability to restore, compel, and transform us, and he does that at the pace necessary for thorough work. Surrender to God’s timing and allow the focus to be abiding and being open with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 | God of Comfort
This is perhaps the most anti-religious proposition you can make. It is not enough for God to merely give us the tools for freedom. He is so bent on love and connection that he shows up in our lives with a promise to abide.
Isaiah 43:2 | I Will Be With You
Sometimes we get the idea that God is a judgmental God with a short temper. I know that sounds cliche, and most of us would dismiss the idea. We have been well trained to separate religion from relationship in our language and mission statements, but sometimes the message fails to get into our hearts.
Always Before Me
Something transformational happens in our hearts when we behold the Lord. The world's concerns begin to fade away, and the glory of the Lord is elevated in our lives. It is not that our goal is to become numb to the world around us, but the anxiety-filled grip that current events and controversies can have on our hearts begins to loosen.
God Is My Helper
The way of the kingdom is built on surrender. There’s no way around it. God gives his Holy Spirit freely and offers the gifts of the spirit at no cost, but maturity comes through the trials. I want to say with more and more conviction each day that God is the upholder of my life, but to do so I have to give up more areas of my life to God’s power.
Earnestly Love
This is the wisdom of abiding. It is accessed in secret and expressed in public. We come to the Lord daily in humility, asking him to help us, and as we receive his kingdom truth, we express it to the world around us. In this, others can see that we live in a freedom and reality beyond our strength.
The Lord’s Delight
When we see God this way, we might be stunned at first by his might, but we will soon be overwhelmed with the measure of his peace, goodness, and love. God is all of these things, perfectly in harmony.
What Does God Know?
I want to be close enough to God to feel the weight of every temptation to sin. I want to be close enough to God that I know his thoughts about me and that I am compelled into a life of righteousness through his grace. This lifestyle is only sustained when we live close to God
The Glory of The Lord
Let the clarity of this promise focus your prayers and posture toward the Lord today. Ask God to show you more of his glory today. What are you waiting for? God’s glory is our inheritance! Lean into his presence anew today.
Mornings With God
I’m just connecting the dots this morning. Our faith can greatly increase when we combine the truth of God’s immense power and faithfulness with the depth of his love. His ultimate demonstration of this love was on the cross when he gave his son to be a ransom for the whole world.
Children Of God
So today, I confess that I need to understand this reality better. I need a renewed vision of God’s love for me. I encourage you to lean in the same. Remember that we have the Holy Spirit as our helper and guide. Open your heart before the Lord and ask him to show you more of what it means to be loved by the Father.
Come Before Him
I find it interesting how these two themes are presented together. On the one hand, we get to celebrate the Lord and are called into worship. On the other, we remember a time when God’s people missed the mark and, in ways, lost the opportunity to worship.
Blessed To Hear
We are all invited into this story. Every single one of us has been beckoned to engage with the kingdom's work. It can start today in a moment of prayer where you take another step in hearing God’s voice and noticing his works.
Be One
This is why Jesus calls us to abide. We can tell our stories of glory, but they only serve as a testimony to give us faith in what God will do today. There is no set it and forget it in the kingdom of God, only a pressing in after God, privately and corporately.
Ancient Worship
So how does this reshape your perspective of worship? Knowing that God has been honored in his temple for thousands of years up to this point, how will you seek him? Knowing that you are the living temple of God’s Spirit, how will you carry yourself?
Surrender to Flourish
Interestingly, money may be the last thing we think to address as we try to get back on the path of freedom. We might check our hearts for any sin and press in harder to devotionals or church. We might assume something else in our life needs to change, like a relationship, or try and find a new ministry/work opportunity. Yet Jesus said it plainly in Matthew 6:21 ESV. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Follow Me
People perceive the voice of God differently. God expresses himself to us uniquely, creatively, and personally. The point is not to fixate on the practicality of how God delivers his messages to his people. Instead, we can rely on God’s promise to speak to us. He says plainly, “My sheep hear my voice.”
Press On To Know
Hosea was calling the people to run after the ways of God, to hunger for his law, and surrender the idols they worshipped. Yet there was no question in Hosea’s mind that God would return to his people. Indeed, “his going out is sure as the dawn.”
Knowing God
We can read a devotional or let it grip our hearts to love God more. We can endure a fast or allow the pain of lack to increase our desire for God. We can sing a worship song or be drawn into a holy moment of encountering God. We can write a spectacular psalm or go on a journey of beholding God for who he is and ask him to show us more.
Open My Eyes
As I see it, we start our faith journey without knowing God and not knowing what to ask for. We may have experienced something about God’s love or forgiveness, but overall our desires are not aligned with the truth of God’s word. With so much yet to learn about the Christian faith, the only thing we know to ask is for God to transform our desires.
